(Harrisburg) -- A veteran lawmaker from northeastern Pennsylvania says she's retiring and won't run for re-election next year.

Luzerne County Democrat state Rep. Phyllis Mundy announced her decision on Monday. The 65-year-old lawmaker has served in the state House since 1990.

Her 12th term expires on November 30th, 2014.

Mundy is the minority chair of the House Finance Committee and co-chairs the Early Childhood Education Caucus, where she's been an ally of funding programs like Head Start and Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts.
