(Harrisburg) -- A wintry mix, chilly temperatures and a lot of rain are complicating holiday travel plans across Pennsylvania, with some areas reporting a few inches of snow on the ground.

Some schools were closed in the mountainous areas in the north and west of the state today. For many Pennsylvanians, it's the first time since last year that they've had to break out snow shovels.

Forecasters say a period of rain is expected to turn back into snow for western parts of the state tomorrow.

High winds are expected, too.

The conditions aren't good news for an army of motorists that will be hitting the highways ahead of Thanksgiving Day on Thursday.
