(Harrisburg) -- A veteran of state government under four different governors is becoming Governor Corbett's new press secretary.

Jay Pagni's appointment has been announced, as Corbett's administration undergoes a shake-up amid the Republican's lackluster performance in opinion polls and low public profile.

The 43-year-old is an Erie County native who most recently was director of communications for Corbett's budget office after a year-long stint in the private sector.

Over his more than 16 years in state government, Pagni has worked in media relations at the departments of Public Welfare and Health and in management at the Department of General Services and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.

His predecessor, longtime Corbett aide Kevin Harley, resigned and is working for a public-relations firm in Harrisburg.
