Corbett backs gambling in bars, lottery expansion

(Harrisburg) -- Governor Corbett's support for legislation to allow gambling in Pennsylvania's bars doesn't mean he's abandoning support for plans to expand the lottery to include keno in bars.

Corbett spokesman Jay Pagni said Friday that both games could appeal to bar owners. Both games also could provide a new source of money to help full holes in next year's budget.

A bill to allow thousands of bars to profit from gambling contests called small games of chance passed the state Senate earlier this week and a vote is expected in the House next month.

It would represent Pennsylvania's largest expansion of gambling since 2010.

Also, Corbett wants to hire a private lottery manager that's proposing to expand keno to thousands of bars and provide online access to lottery games.
