(Morgantown, W.Va.) -- An oil and gas program at West Virginia University is hosting a two-day forum for the shale gas industry this week in Pennsylvania.

The Petroleum Technology Transfer Council Appalachian Center is offering professional certifications through the courses, set for Wednesday and Thursday in Canonsburg, Washington County.

Wednesday's session will focus on well bore integrity and will look at the latest research on well construction.

Thursday's session will focus on how companies could use cleaner-burning natural gas instead of diesel to generate the onsite power required for both drilling and hydraulic fracturing operations.

Both workshops are part of the school's Environmentally Friendly Drilling Systems Program.
