(Harrisburg) -- State Treasurer Rob McCord appears ready to announce that he's officially entering a crowded Democratic field vying to challenge Republican Governor Tom Corbett in next year's election.

McCord's campaign has scheduled tomorrow's announcements at Montgomery County Community College and an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers facility in Pittsburgh.

A campaign spokesman wouldn't say what McCord will announce.

The field of Democrats vying to challenge Corbett is more than a half-dozen strong.

Corbett is a conservative who is beset by sagging public approval ratings.
The Democratic Party primary is May 20th.

To get on the primary ballot, a candidate must gather 2,000 signatures of registered Democratic Party voters, including at least 100 from each of ten counties.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions is March 11th.
