(Harrisburg) -- State House Majority Leader Mike Turzai says he is pushing for a floor vote in his chamber on a $2.5 billion transportation plan that passed the state Senate by an overwhelming majority.

Turzai's comments today indicated a plan that he's criticized as too expensive and unsupportable by the more conservative House GOP majority could become law.

The Allegheny County lawmaker says Governor Corbett wants a vote on the bill and Turzai says he's inclined to hold it sooner rather than later.

The Senate's transportation bill is also supported by business groups and labor unions. Corbett issued a less-expensive plan and hasn't publicly pushed for passage of the Senate's bill.

Movement on transportation could encourage Republican senators to support liquor system privatization legislation, a top priority of the House GOP.
