(Camp Hill) -- Two hospital systems in the midstate are starting to examine whether there are ways they can work together, a process that's beginning with a letter of intent.

Geisinger Health System of Danville and Holy Spirit Health System in Camp Hill, Cumberland County, have announced the deal, saying the approval process should take at least six months.

The Holy Spirit president, Sister Romaine Niemeyer, says Geisinger has a history of success in similar undertakings.

Geisinger has about 19,000 employees and serves 44 counties in central and northeastern Pennsylvania.

Holy Spirit runs 315-bed Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. The health system has more than 2,900 employees and some 500 physicians.
