(Pittsburgh) -- The daughter of convicted former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin has been charged with insurance fraud.

Frank Rapp, the attorney for Casey Melvin, declined comment on the charges but promised an ``appropriate response in court.''

The 25-year-old defendant is scheduled for a preliminary hearing October 18th.

She was arraigned Wednesday on the charge relating to a claim Melvin allegedly tried to file after crashing into a utility pole on March 29, 2012 even though her auto policy had expired.

The Allegheny County district attorney's office, which prosecuted Justice Melvin and two sisters -- Casey Melvin's aunts, Jane and Janine Orie -- for campaign corruption, also filed the charges against Casey Melvin.

The DA tried to get the state attorney general to take the case, but Melvin's uncle is a prosecutor there.
