(Lancaster) -- A high school student in Lancaster County has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.

A letter sent out to parents says the student attends Wheatland Middle School in the School District of Lancaster.

Tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial infection that usually attacks the lungs.

It's spread through the air and can be fatal if not treated properly.

The letter from principal Jay Butterfield says the state Health Department is working with the district to identify and test people who came into close contact with the infected student.
