(Gouverneur, N.Y.) -- Authorities say a 10-year-old girl abducted in Pennsylvania by her mother's ex-boyfriend isn't the man's daughter, despite fatherhood claims he made to police who captured him near his northern New York home.

Officials in St. Lawrence County say 39-year-old Peter Tarbox and his mother, 55-year-old Annette Williams, were driving to their home in Norwood when a police officer in the village of Gouverneur spotted their car at a gas station late Thursday night and took them into custody without incident.

Officials say the girl, Alexandria Jade Long, was found safe in the vehicle.Pennsylvania State Police issued an Amber Alert after they determined the girl has been abducted Thursday afternoon from her home in Gordon in eastern Pennsylvania.

Police say Tarbox's claims of being the girl's father are false.
