(Uniontown) -- Students from Pennsylvania who attend Penn State's main campus may be in for a 3.4 percent tuition increase.

The university says the cost would be about $264 per semester for freshmen and sophomores.

The board of trustees is expected to vote on the proposed rates tomorrow.

The university says higher tuition is needed to pay the cost of academic programs.  Proposed tuition increases for branch campuses are lower.
