Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl Roe
(Harrisburg) -- Carl Roe is retiring as executive director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission in January.
Roe was hired as the agency's first-ever long-range strategic planner in 2001 and four years later was unanimously named executive director by the Board of Game Commissioners.
Roe developed the "Connect with Wildlife" slogan the commission has used for several years and led the state's transition to electronic hunting license sales.
About 1 million hunters annually purchase electronic licenses.
Under Roe's watch, the state has seen a resurgence of its bald eagle population, the expansion of bear season to four days, and began its Mentored Youth Hunting Program.
Roe, who lives in Carlisle, plans to retire January 17.
