(Hazelton) -- Hazelton remains barred from enforcing a crackdown on immigrants who are in the United States illegally.
The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia has reaffirmed an earlier decision over the proposed restrictions in the town.
The ordinances would deny permits to businesses that hire people in the country illegally and fine landlords who rent to them. They were originally advocated by former mayor and now-Congressman Lou Barletta.
The U.S. Supreme Court considered the Hazleton case two years ago and sent it back to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court in 2010. The northeastern Pennsylvania city has relied on private donations to defend the never-enforced ordinance.
