(Lancaster) -- A Lancaster City Council member wants to see a comprehensive review of a fatal shooting of a homeless man by a police officer.
Councilwoman Barbara Wilson, who chairs the public safety committee, is asking for a report on Monday's incident to be sent to her committee.
Investigators say the shooting happened after an officer was responding to a report of a man urinating in public. Police say 35-year-old Gregory Stephen Bayne was shot after pulling a knife as an officer checked his identification. Police say he was given chances to drop his weapon, but instead lunged at the officer.
City Council President Louise Williams says the report should wait until the formal review process is completed. District Attorney Craig Stedman says his preliminary assessment is that the shooting was justified.
