(Harrisburg) -- Dauphin County has closed Wildwood Park due to heavy smoke from a nearby fuel tanker fire.

Dauphin County Parks and Recreation staff report the accident at the interchange of Rt. 322 and Interstate 81 in Susquehanna Township may have also caused a diesel fuel leak that may have spilled into Wildwood Lake and Paxton Creek.

A county spokeswoman says the state Department of Environmental Protection has been notified and expected to take containment and remediation measures.

Programming at Wildwood Park has been canceled today.

The park will be closed until further notice.

WITF tries to become a "News Operation" twice a day with incessant interruptions of NPR programming with self promotion and short stories based on handouts. But when it comes to a real news event, one that paralyzes the community, WITF gives up. With I-81 at a standstill due to the trucker fire, WITF was blithely sailing through the Diane Rehm Show as if nothing had happened. No information was provided about detours, school delays or closings or anything else that mattered.
Can you not partner with a real news provider, perhaps with WHTM to share public information?
WITF is not serving in the public interest with this morning's absence of ongoing news coverage of a regional emergency.
