Schuylkill County borough council to reduce its size

(Mount Carbon) -- A judge has ruled that a borough council in Schuylkill County can shrink from five members to three.

Mount Carbon council had requested the change. Solicitor Chris Riedlinger says it's been difficult to find people to fill the seats in recent years, given the borough's limited population.

Census figures show it has a population of 91.

Schuylkill County Judge John Domalakes has granted the request. He says  many municipalities in the county are represented by three officials and have greater populations than Mount Carbon.

Riedlinger says voters don't have to approve the borough's petition. He says it only requires signatures from five percent of the borough's registered voters.
