Audio & video: Gov. Corbett to provide update on I-81 tanker fire

Written by witf and The Associated Press | May 9, 2013 12:49 PM

Governor Corbett will provide an update at 3 p.m. today on the road closures and bridge damage that resulted from the tanker truck fire and explosion that has closed Interstate 81 and Route 322 near Harrisburg. Corbett's Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan and Department of Environmental Protection Acting Secretary Chris Abruzzo will also be at the news conference.

A fully loaded diesel tanker overturned on the northbound interstate on-ramp to westbound Route 322 about 6:10 a.m. Thursday. The truck caught fire and multiple explosions resulted, though the 52-year-old driver -- who is not otherwise being identified -- escaped with minor injuries.

The Corbett administration also is letting many of its employees in the Capitol Complex go home two hours early to ease congestion.
