(Harrisburg) -- More than 1,000 people are attending the funeral in Harrisburg for Roman Catholic Bishop Joseph McFadden, the spiritual leader for about 250,000 Roman Catholics in central Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput is presiding over the funeral mass at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.

The 65-year-old McFadden died of a heart attack last Thursday after feeling ill while attending a meeting of the Catholic Bishops of Pennsylvania in his native Philadelphia.

The service will cap several days of memorial services while the bishop's body lay in state at St. Patrick Cathedral near the state Capitol in downtown Harrisburg. He'll be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.

McFadden, who oversaw parishes in 15 counties, had been Harrisburg's bishop for about three years. Before that, he was an auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia.
