(Harrisburg) -- Governor Corbett is said to be close to naming a new education secretary to replace the outgoing Ron Tomalis.

Two people briefed by Corbett administration officials told The Associated Press that Corbett could nominate Cumberland Valley School District Superintendent William Harner as his new education secretary as early as Wednesday.

The two people spoke on condition of anonymity because they did not want to be named divulging private conversations with administration officials.

Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday and a message left at Harner's office was not immediately returned.

The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported last week that Tomalis would be leaving the education secretary post.
