(Harrisburg) -- State Treasurer Rob McCord is holding up payments to a Kansas-based company hired to run Pennsylvania's executive-branch websites while McCord's office reviews whether the contract is legal and proper.
A Treasury Department spokesman said it sent questions Friday about the no-bid contract to Governor Corbett's administration.
Spokesman Gary Tuma says the Treasury Department is holding up $2.6 million in payments to NIC while it waits for the answers. The questions involve the legality of the contract, the approval process, and the calculation of the payment amounts.
NIC was hired Dec. 1 to manage the state's website infrastructure and technology on a five- to 10-year contract. Administration officials couldn't immediately confirm whether they received the Treasury Department's questions, but they have defended the hiring process as legal and proper.
