(Chambersburg) -- A Franklin County military bases is canceling its Armed Forces Day celebrations due to sequestration cuts.

Letterkenny Army Depot is calling off the public tours, demonstrations and other events that it typically hosts on the third Saturday of May each year.

Spokeswoman Lindsay Bryant says the facility is hoping to hold the show next year.

"We're looking forward to hopefully being able to go back to what we've done in the past, in opening up the facility to the community and letting everybody see what it is we do here," Bryant says.

She says the facility last canceled Armed Forces Day activities in the early 1990s.

Bryant adds other military bases across the country have had to scale back or cancel events, like air shows.

Letterkenny will offer tours of homesteads and cemeteries that pre-dated the depot and are still located on the base grounds as the only activity on Armed Forces Day.
