(Loganville) -- Police say a fire chief was struck and killed by a drunk driver while he was directing traffic at an accident scene in York County.
Firefighters gathered last night to remember Loganville fire Chief Rodney Miller, who was killed in the accident near the Glen Rock exit of Interstate 83 early Saturday morning.
Authorities say 32-year-old Shrewsbury resident Matthew Scott Diehl has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.
Diehl is being held in prison after being denied bail.
It wasn't immediately clear if he had obtained an attorney.
Police say Diehl was trying to go around Miller's parked vehicle, which had its emergency lights on, when his SUV struck Miller as he directed traffic.
Miller was pronounced dead at a hospital.
