PA Marine among those killed in Nevada blast

(Dudois) --The mother of a young man from Pennsylvania who was killed by an explosion during a training exercise says he wanted to be a Marine since he was a young boy.

Karen Perry says she was working with the Marine Corps to plan funeral arrangements for Pfc. Josh Martino, a 19-year-old native of Dubois.

Perry says three Marines notified her of the death during a visit to her workplace on Tuesday.

Martino was in Nevada for training in preparation for being shipped out to Afghanistan when he was killed Monday. Martino is described as a former high school athlete and accomplished hunter who hoped to marry his fiancee later this year.

Investigators are trying to figure out why a mortar shell exploded, killing Martino and six others.
