(Harrisburg) -- A popular Pennsylvania outdoors show that was postponed indefinitely because of a controversy over assault weapons won't be rescheduled this year.

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show had been set to start Feb. 2 at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

But its ban on assault weapons in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting led to a backlash and vendor boycott.

Organizers indefinitely postponed the event last month.

Yesterday, state officials who run the Farm Show Complex said the show would not be held this year.

An Agriculture Department spokeswoman says officials hope to hold a show of similar size next February.

Reed Exhibitions, which operates the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, could not be reached for comment.
