Minor earth tremor barely felt in Williamsport area

(Williamsport) -- The U.S. Geological Survey says a minor earth tremor centered in Williamsport registered a magnitude of 2.3.

The U.S.G.S. says the tremor happened shortly before 5:00 a.m. Tuesday and that its epicenter was in the west end of the city. Police Captain Tim Miller says the department got no calls and that nothing was felt.

Lycoming County Department of Public Safety Director John Yingling says there were no reports of injuries or damage.

A quake of 2.5 to 3 is typically the smallest felt by people. Minor tremors happen daily across the world.
