Written by Megan Lello, witf Reporter and Producer | Jan 3, 2013 10:34 AM

(Reading) -- UGI Utilities has regained its 800 phone number service.  It had temporarily lost the service due to an issue with the numbers' provider. The company had been providing alternate phone numbers to customers in case of an emergency.

Here's an earlier press release from the company:

"Due to an equipment issue by a major provider of 800 number phone service in multiple states, UGI Utilities and other businesses have temporarily lost 800 phone service.

Because of this outage, UGI’s regular phone numbers for UGI Gas, UGI Penn Natural Gas and UGI Electric (800-276-2722) and UGI Central Penn Gas (800-652-0550) are not functional at this time.

UGI’s Call Center is operating. During this situation, UGI is only accepting emergency phone calls.

Please use any of the following numbers to contact UGI if you smell gas in your home or business, or if you are experiencing an electric outage in UGI’s electric service territory:

  • (717) 234-5951.
  • (570) 829-3461.
  • (610) 375-4441

If you smell gas and the gas odor is strong, leave the building and call from an outside phone. If you have a downed electric power line, avoid the area and contact UGI.

If you are experiencing difficulty reaching UGI, please contact your local 911 emergency center.

UGI will provide an update on this 800 number outage as information is available.

Customers are urged to contact UGI at a later time for any non-emergency phone calls. We apologize for any inconvenience."
