(Washington) -- The federal Treasury Department is urging millions of Social Security and other federal benefit recipients to change the way they receive payments.

The department says it still mails about $5 million each month, but electronic direct deposit and special debit cards will be used for all payments starting on March 1st.

As part of our MoneyWorks series, witf's Craig Layne talks with Treasury spokeswoman Tepricka Morgan about the switch and why it's happening.

There's more information at the Treasury's Website or by calling 1-800-333-1795.
