(Carlisle) — The central Pennsylvania school district where five children were burned in a science class demonstration gone awry has put the teacher involved on indefinite leave.
The Carlisle Area School District says the teacher is on leave following the Nov. 28 fire inside an eighth grade classroom at Wilson Middle School.
Fire officials say the teacher was burning rubbing alcohol when the demonstration went out of control, burning five students and sending two others to hospitals for exposure to smoke.
One student was held overnight at a Baltimore hospital for treatment of burns to his face and torso.
District Superintendent John Friend says the incident remains under investigation.
