(Harrisburg) -- A new report reveals Pennsylvania has more electric generation suppliers than any other state.
The Annual Baseline Assessment of Choice in Canada and the US shows nearly 50 different companies offer more than 60 power products in the commonwealth.
State Public Utility Commission spokeswoman Jennifer Kocher says only 1.9 million electric consumers have already shopped for a new electric generation supplier.
"We'd like to see that number go up even more because there are savings to be had, and it can be beneficial to people," Kocher says. "Just like we shop for cable, insurance, cell phones and other products, we need people to be comfortable shopping for electricity because it can help save in the family budget."
Kocher says suppliers have picked up new customers with tactics like free electricity on designated days of the week.
The report ranks the commonwealth third for its level of consumer choice and fourth for commercial selections.
