Thumbnail image for Vote buttons(Harrisburg) -- Democratic Kathleen Kane holds a slim fundraising edge over Republican David Freed in the campaign for Pennsylvania attorney general.

Tuesday was the deadline for state candidates to file their first campaign finance reports since shortly after the April primary.

Kane, a former Lackawanna County prosecutor, says she raised nearly $1.5 million since the primary and had $1.2 million on hand as of Sept. 17. Kane's husband gave and loaned most of the more than $2 million she spent in the contested primary, but she says all the post-primary money came from supporters outside her family.

Freed, the Cumberland County district attorney, was unopposed in the GOP primary.

Freed's campaign says he has raised more than $1.4 million since launching his campaign and reported more than $1 million on hand.
