Harrisburg's Best Steaks

When it comes to steaks, everyone has an opinion.  Some like theirs thick-cut; others prefer them thinner.  Many patrons want to make sure their steak practically says “moo” by ordering it rare; those on the other end of the spectrum prefer a charbroiled piece of meat with no hint of pink.  Fortunately, all their tastes can be fulfilled in Harrisburg.

So where are the best steaks in the Harrisburg market?  I spent a significant amount of time doing my own delicious hunting and found these hotspots:

The Best Steak Buffet

Are you looking for some prime rib?  Want to have a few choices to go with the main course?  At the Harrisburg Hilton, you’ll discover that their Friday and Saturday night prime rib buffet offers more than enough flavor to satisfy your steak desires.  Plus, every person in your group will be able to have as much as they want.  Just make sure to save room for dessert.  Raspberries restaurant there is known for the best sweet treats to go with the best steak buffet.

The Best Aged Beef

Hands-down, the best aged piece of beef comes from Bricco.  This steak restaurant in downtown Harrisburg offers a dry-aged strip loin that melts in your mouth.  Aged more than 20 days, it’s like nothing you’ve ever tasted.  Plus, the chef has paired it with savory vegetables and other sumptuous treats.  I dare you to leave even a garnish on your plate!

The Best Regular Ol’ New York Strip

Sometimes, you’re just in the mood for a New York Strip steak without traveling to the Empire State.  That’s when you need to head to the Firehouse.  This Harrisburg hotspot serves its fifth alarm signature strip over mashed ‘taters drizzled with a demi-glaze made from mushrooms and brandy.  Can you say delicious?

The Best Filet Mignon

There’s just something about the words “filet mignon” that make the mouth water in anticipation.  At Stock’s on Second, they serve an 8-ounce piece of Warrington Farms grilled filet mignon that delivers on all the palate-pleasing promises.  Served alongside potatoes, mushrooms and peas, you’ll hardly notice those companions.  Poor Remi, though; there’ll be no “doggy bag” tonight!

The Best Braised Rib

Okay, although this might not be a traditional steak, we had to include Ceolta’s boneless Guinness-braised short rib in our list of the best steaks in the Harrisburg area.  Who can argue with tender-as-the-day-is-long meat?  Plus, the ambiance of this fun-loving pub makes eating this dish even better!

The Best Charred Filet

If your taste buds are screaming for a steak with loads of flavor and style, Café Fresco is ready to give you what you want.  Here, they offer a charred filet of beef that comes with a wasabi crème fraiche.  In other words, your palate will be insanely happy.

Certainly, every outing is unique.  Whether you’re celebrating a loved one’s special day, or you’re just thrilled that the workweek has come to a close, it’s always the right time to head out for a steak dinner.  Make no mistake, there is absolutely a steak for any day and any desire, especially when you’re having a meal in Harrisburg.

Before we close, though, we do want to suggest that you pick the proper libation to go with your steak.  If you drink alcoholic beverages, you might want to choose a wine such as a Pinot Noir, Napa Valley Red or my personal favorite, Cabernet Sauvignon.  Should beer or ale be more your speed, choices like Pale Ale or Guinness are solid accompaniments to a steak dinner.  Plus, local breweries like Troegs and Appalachian Brewery Company offer seasonal brews that will pair well with any steak dinner.

Finally, if you’re a tee-totaler or the designated driver, don’t worry!  Just opt for a glass of water or plain seltzer with a hint of lemon.  All these options will help make the most of your steak meal.
