Dr. Jacqueline B. Sallade offers advice for maintaining your mental health.
Real health is about prevention, though. Look what we started with cutting down on smoking. How many lives could we save and how much money if we cut down on all alcohol and drug addictions and on obesity? Couldn't we use that money for real societal improvement and for research on diseases that aren't created or exascerbated by behavioral disturbance? People who don't have to pay taxes to support huge health insurance premiums for their country could buy goods and services and stimulate the economy or invest.
Think of a country with people who eat right, exercise and don't abuse substances. I think it even existed at one time. I hope it could exist again. Politicians, hospitals, doctors, educators, business and the grass roots, please get behind this idea. For example, Chris Christie, and I mean you, if you can lose weight once the wrong way so you regain it quickly and worse, it means you can lose weight slowly and sanely once and for all and keep it off. It isn't rocket science. You don't need to go hungry or feel deprived. Use your brain and learn to find satisfaction in flexible self-control. Everybody, please...let's make America healthy.
