In our recent conversation with Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, he talked about the music on their upcoming concert, March 4-6. The concert is titled Mozart and Salieri: Roots and Rivalry. Antonio Salieri’s overture, School of Jealousy, is paired with Mozart’s famous Clarinet Concerto in A in the first half of the concert. Doris Hall-Gulati will be the soloist in the Mozart work, performing on the instrument for which it was originally written, a basset clarinet. The second half of the concert features a work called Tanover by Benjamin Yusupov with flutist David DiGiacobbe as soloist, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 will be the final work. Tickets and full details about the concert are available at the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra website.
Maestro Gunzenhauser also talked about his efforts to create a unique sound for the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra rooted in the German-style tradition of playing. You can hear our conversation with him below.
