Wine Tip Tuesdays: A Date with Wine.

Written by Donna Marie Desfor, Culinary Consultant and Chef | Jan 27, 2012 5:11 PM

While most people I know can finish off a bottle of wine the night it is opened, there are those rare moments when you might want to have just one glass.  You re-cork the bottle, and might even refrigerate it.  The problem is that by the time you return to that bottle you’re likely to have forgotten when it was opened.  (okay, probably not). But if you like wine and open a bottle or two, or more throughout any given week, knowing which ones are nearing the “drink now” date is probably a good thing.  If you enjoy ports, brandies or cognacs, it’s almost imperative to know how long your bottle has been sitting out.  A Date with Wine, $45 by le mouton noir & co. , is a sturdy and weighty wine stopper made of food-grade stainless steel and silicone that is easily changed to display the date your bottle is opened.  An interesting if not gimmicky idea that is hard to resist using once you’ve got it in hand.
