Just because you have a small and cozy apartment doesn't mean that you won't be able to keep claustrophobic feelings at bay. There are numerous ways to make your home feel spacious. After all, how we perceive space is highly subjective. If someone doesn't know how to make the most of the space that they're living in, then their home may seem tiny even if it's really not. Here are some clever ways to maximize a small space.

Use Room Dividers as Functional Storage Solutions

If you live in a studio apartment, then you probably have a visual divider that makes the space more livable. However, you shouldn't simply go for any type of divider. Instead, you should get something that can function as a storage solution as well. For example, getting a bookshelf as a room divider is a great way to both make your apartment seem bigger and declutter the space.

Create Zones

If you want to make your apartment look bigger, then you should consider creating different zones. You can separate these zones according to the things you do in a space. Basically, there should be four different zones inside your home. Ideally, you should have a zone for working, relaxing, eating, and sleeping.

Get Rid of Stuff

In order to make the most of living in a small space, you will need to get rid of all the unnecessary stuff. As soon as you donate or throw away useless things, you will instantly start seeing your apartment differently. Getting rid of stuff will help you realize just how much space you have in your apartment and will surely bring you a step closer to reorganizing your whole living space.

Create Double-Duty Rooms

A double-duty room is a room that has multiple uses. In order to create a double-duty room, you will first need to decide its primary function. Think about how much time you will spend using the room in each way. Storage and organization is extremely important in double-duty rooms, since they can easily get cluttered.

Get Compact Appliances

Appliances can take up a lot of space, which is why it's important to choose the ones that were designed to fit in small spaces. Keep in mind that just because these appliances are small doesn't mean that they don't perform well. In fact, compact appliances were designed so that they perform just as good as their full-sized counterparts.

One of the best compact appliances you can buy for your apartment is a countertop dishwasher. This is basically a compact dishwasher that you can put on top of your counter or any other flat surface of your choosing. It does the job just as good as any other dishwasher, but it is smaller and uses less energy. There are many different models, so make sure to read a countertop dishwasher buyer's guide in order to choose the right one for you.

Find Pieces That Can Serve Multiple Purposes

One of the best ways to the make the most of living in a small space is to start buying pieces that can serve multiple purposes. For example, you should look for a table that you can use as both a dining table and a desk. Similarly, try finding a deep sofa that could also serve as a guest bed.

Get Organized

If you're living in a small space, it's imperative that you organize your storage spaces. Consider getting a few storage containers, such as baskets as bins, since they're a great option for utilizing your space better.

Maximize Corners

Maximizing the corners of rooms is without a doubt one of the best ways to make the most of living in a small space. By putting stuff more stuff in corners, the rest of your room will seem more open.
