8 Common Plumbing Problems

Written by Erik Larson, Community Blogger | Feb 5, 2018 1:43 PM

Reaching out to a plumber at least once annually is typical to most homeowners. People experience different plumbing problems every day. Some of the common problems related to plumbing are easy to fix. Being able to fix such issues can save you hundreds of dollars. The question people ask themselves is what are these common plumbing problems? In this article, you will get to learn eight most common plumbing problems that people experience.

1. Low water pressure

In some cases, you might discover that your house has low pressure. The problem may be either with your shower head or your house has a leak. If you have been using your shower head for a long time, it is high time you consider changing it. If you have a leak, you will end up paying more for less water. Look for the leak and cover it immediately.

2. A slow draining sink.

The problem is that the pop up used to stop up the sink collects waste over time. For your water to flow smoothly, use a zip-it to clean the drain. Another option you should consider is removing the pop-up and cleaning it.

3. A running toilet.

It is a problem that is familiar to many households. A toilet can run up to 200 gallons of waste in a day, which is a lot of waste. Toilets run due to different reasons, but the good news is that they are easy to fix. Try and find out if the problem might be on the fill valve, flapper, or leaky flush valve. Once you find the problem, you can easily replace the part or fix it.

4. Jammed garbage disposal.

Most people think that their garbage disposal will serve them forever. If improperly used, it can jam easily. Losing the key that unjams your garbage disposal may also bring problems. The good thing is that you can use an Allen wrench to unjam your garbage disposal. At the bottom of the disposal, insert ¼ inch Allen wrench and turn it left and right to free the motor.

5. Water heater.

Think of getting into the shower and getting hit by cold water. It is the worst feeling in the world. A well-maintained water heater should offer you service for eight to twelve years. If your water heater develops any problem, you should consider calling AWPE for installation of a legit water heater. For the heater to serve you well, make sure you maintain it regularly.

6. Leaking pipes.

It is a problem that can lead to extensive damage to your home and surrounding. To be on the safe side, keep an eye on the joints of your pipe, and if you spot any water on the floor, there is a leak. Damages caused by water may lead to costly repairs to your home. Therefore, to avoid such complications, fix the problem instantly.

7. Slow draining tub.

A tub that has a lot of hair may block the water from draining out. To solve this problem, consider using a pin to clean the debris. If you have a tub stopper, remove it before you can get to the hair clog. Whether or not the tub is draining slowly, make a point of cleaning out the debris once in a while. Allowing the dirt to pile up may lead to a permanent clog.

8. Leak protection.

It is vital to have a leak detection system in your house. It alerts people in the house in case there is a leak and automatically shuts off the main water supply. Therefore, you need to ensure that this system is functioning at all times.

Conclusion

When it comes to plumbing issues, some of them are dangerous to deal with alone. So, it is important to consult an expert in such situations. On the other hand, if it is something you can deal with, feel free to do it. It is a great learning process as well.
