When was the last time you had your drains cleaned by SPS Plumbers? If it's been awhile, you aren't alone. The fact of the matter is, it can be so easy to go about your day and forget all about your drains. This is especially true if you tend to keep a tight, busy schedule. However, the reality is, they're in need of special care, and it's up to you to make sure that they're getting it. In order to know how often you need to have them cleaned, you'll need to pay close attention to a few, specific signs. Here are some ways you can tell if your drains are full of gunk and would benefit from a cleaning.

Signs Your Drains Need Cleaning

Your drains should be cleaned regularly. This will prevent issues that are associated with dirty, clogged drains. That being said, there are certain signs that you'll want to be on the lookout for when trying to figure out whether or not they need to be cleaned in the first place. First, you'll notice the presence of bacteria buildup in your drains. Even though you won't be able to detect it with your own eyes, you'll be able to make this assessment, based on a number of other clues you're given. If your sink and your bathroom counter are covered in dust, yellow or brown spots, and several strands of hair, it's a good indication of what's there in the drain.

Besides this, you may encounter a strange, foul smell. You can't quite put your finger on where it's coming from, but you know it's coming from somewhere in your bathroom. This is typically a dead giveaway that there's bacteria buildup in your drain. It might even mean there's mold beginning to form in it. By recognizing the signs of grimy drains, you'll know they're in need of thorough, prompt cleaning.

What Happens if Your Drains Aren't Maintained?

There are negative consequences that can follow when you fail to get your drains cleaned properly or as often as they need to be. First, structural damage can occur. That being said, it's only a matter of time before clogged drains will cause substantial problems for other, related plumbing features. After a while, they end up putting too much pressure on the pipes, and this will inevitably lead them to burst.

Leaving a clog unattended for too long is not a good idea. Dealing with a burst pipe isn't cheap, and it often proves be a source of stress. By working to keep your drains clean and clear of hair and grease as much as possible, you can keep your pipes protected for longer. After all, you want your house to be inviting. This is one way to accomplish that.

It's time to stop taking your drains for granted. They're not foolproof and should never be treated as if they are. You'll want to make it a point to have your drains cleaned on a consistent basis. Neglecting them can cause serious problems for you and your home that you're not prepared to tackle. For this reason, you should do everything you can to keep up with your drains' maintenance.
