Tools to help you succeed

Written by Erik Larson, Community Blogger | Jun 30, 2017 1:50 AM

In a world constantly changing with new technology and trends, people are always needing to adapt to new standards of success. This can mean a number of different things, as the definition of success never stops meaning something new. However, no matter how much the world's standard of success will change, the ways to get there will always stay the same at the core.

There are certain things you can do in order to help you be successful. These things are tools that will act as stepping stools for you. Most of these things are relatively easy to do on their own, but it takes hard work and motivation to be able to dedicate yourself to every step as whole.

Set Goals for Yourself

Setting goals for yourself is the first step in leading a successful life. It is also important in general for your happiness and individuality. When setting goals for yourself, you identify the things you want most - both long term and short term. This helps you learn who you are as a person which is an incredibly important first step to success. You cannot be successful if you do not know who you are or what your purpose is.

Challenge Yourself

Being successful is a challenge in itself, so starting off small will help you ease yourself into the main event. Start with little things, like forming a new habit. On average, it takes more than two months of consistency to form a new habit. Challenge yourself to dedicate to a certain thing - like washing your dishes immediately after use, for at least two months straight. After that, it should become an automatic habit, and you'll have succeeded.

Another great way to challenge yourself is to learn a new language. Not only is this a challenge, but it is also very helpful to be multi-lingual in today's culturally diverse and mixing world. There are plenty of great resources online to help you learn a language, depending on the language you wish to learn. One option is Gritty Spanish, a great site to look into if you'd like to learn the Spanish language.

Keep a Journal

Journals are incredibly beneficial to you both in general and as a tool to help you succeed in life. Journals allow you to reflect on yourself and your future. In order to be successful, you must be able to acknowledge and understand the many parts of yourself. By writing these parts down on paper (or in an app, or however you decide to keep your journal), you make them concrete.

A great style of journal to keep is the bullet journal. It is a relatively new idea, but it has received a lot of feedback and publicity from successful people and budding successes alike. The idea of the bullet journal is to keep things simple and lay it all down on the line. It is a bare-bones way of journaling that you can honestly do absolutely anything with. The beauty of the bullet journal is that it is completely your own, with a certain way of styling lists that makes things clear and easy to understand.

Don't Be Afraid to Fail

The most important part of being successful is that you are almost guaranteed to fail on your way down the path. Think of the cliché idea that things must get worse before they can get better; the same thing applies here. Your "failures" will make you stronger and show you what things to do better next time.

In that sense, your "failures" are never really failures to begin with. They are little successes disguised in something that feels negative. They will build you up on your way to being a successful and confident person. They are necessary to the process. Therefore, if you fail, you succeed.

Success is a tricky thing to measure. In a way, simply aiming for success is success in itself. In order to measure your success, you should identify exactly what the word means to you. It will be different for everybody, even though the core ways to get there are essentially the same. The most important thing to remember is that success is an abstract word. There is no one meaning, as it will always change as society does.
