Linda Chavey writes about how to change your lifestyle habits in order to eliminate debt.
It is important to decide if an item is actually worth purchasing. Is it a need or a want? How many minutes or hours must you work to purchase this item? Sometimes when making a purchase, I calculate the minutes of labor required to own the item. Most often, I quickly give it up and walk away. This has come with a great deal of practice and conditioning. Being in debt has taught me some lessons that are hard-wired into my head. I do enjoy purchases sometimes but it is few and far between that I am purchasing items that I do not need.
This is why it is important to write all purchases down. It will show how many dollars are actually going out the door.
Realizing how much is spent can be an eye-opening experience. Changes can then be made to alter lifestyle spending habits.
