Healthy Water Play

Written by Debbie Riek, Education Coordinator | Oct 2, 2009 2:24 PM

In Healthy Child Care, June/July 2009 edition, the following tips are listed for healthy water play:

  • Do not allow children to participate in water play if they have diarrhea (especially children in diapers)
  • Do not swallow pool water and teach children to avoid getting water in their mouths
  • Help children rinse off with soap and water before and after swimming or water play and wash all hands after using the toilet or changing diapers
  • Take children on frequent bathroom breaks or check diapers often
  • Change diapers in a bathroom or a diaper changing area– not at poolside or near other water activities
  • Wash small children thoroughly (especially the diapered area) with soap and water before swimming
