Arthur Episode #102: Arthur and the Real Mr. Ratburn

It's the first day of third grade and Arthur's biggest fear has come true--his new teacher is the dreaded Mr. Ratburn. A man who eats nails for breakfast, who turns into a vampire at night, who assigns homework EVERY DAY! But there's a surprise in store when Arthur and Buster get the chance to uncover the REAL Mr. Ratburn.


Trying New Things

Materials: craft sticks, magazines, markers, old socks, paper plates, tape


1. Make a puppet: Help children make different kinds of puppets. They can use things like paper plates, socks or pictures mounted on craft sticks.

2. Share your story: Tell your children about something new that you tried. Talk about how you were expecting to be nervous, bored or scared, but then found out to your surprise that you liked it.

3. Share kids’ stories: Ask children to share similar stories of their own.

4. Put on a show: Help children use their homemade puppets to put on a show based on the stories they had told you.
