Located in the historic St. Lawrence Chapel, 110 State Street, Harrisburg, The State Street Academy of Music is a classical music academy for young people, which opened in 2006. The Foundation for the Preservation of Historic St. Lawrence Chapel had not only the goal of restoring and preserving the beautiful old religious structure, but also of giving it a new purpose by making music instruction available to young people in the area. The State Street Academy of Music is a separate, secular organization which uses the facility for that purpose. The Academy offers private lessons for a variety of instruments, as well as the chance to participate in a children’s choir and group violin.
