Irena Sendler has been referred to as “the female Oskar Schindler”, whose story was made widely known in the film Schindler’s List. A Polish Catholic, Irena Sendler helped rescue some 2, 500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II and saved them from the Nazi death camps. Her story inspired Paul Millar to write music based on her life. With help from his wife, Elena, a classically trained pianist from Moldava, he has written a collection of pieces called the Irena Sendler Suite. He’ll be giving a multimedia presentation on her life, using his original music, on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Hershey Medical Center, on the 3rd floor in Lecture Room A. You can hear an interview with samples of the music below. And check out this YouTube link for more.
