CREATIVE ZONE: Letters from the War

Written by  Cary Burkett, witf Host and Producer

The letters collected in this book are one man’s messages to his wife and children while in Europe during 1944 and 1945. David R. Hoffman edited the letters of his father, Major Albert W. Hoffman, for publication. The letters cover his service with the 29th Infantry Division in the ETO which includes Major Hoffman’s arrival in Normandy on D-Day plus 3, being wounded at St. Lo, his hospitalization in England and eventual return to his division on the German border after his recovery. He told his family that he would be back home at his job at the Brownwood, Texas Post Office in time for the 1945 Christmas rush. He was right. He returned from Europe in September of 1945 and was back working at the Post Office before December. I'll Be Home for the Christmas Rush is available locally at the Bare Wall Gift Shop on Green Street, the Midtown Scholar Bookstore and also at Amazon.com. You can hear our interview with David R. Hoffman below.
