WITF in collaboration with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra celebrates the American Veteran with regional outdoor concerts including stories from local veterans from WITF’s The War Stories Collection.

The Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra continues a decades-old tradition of presenting free outdoor concerts around the Independence Day holiday with a series of five concerts in five different communities beginning on Thursday, July 3 and ending on Monday, July 7. This year’s performances are being billed as a “Celebration of the American Veteran” and all veterans and active duty service personnel are welcome. The performances are FREE to one and all and the entire community is invited to grab their lawn chairs and a blanket and enjoy an evening of familiar family-friendly patriotic music under the stars. The concert on Saturday night, July 5, in Metro Bank Park on City Island in Harrisburg will feature vintage World War 2 video footage projected onto the large scoreboard interspersed with the music. After the concert, the city’s annual spectacular Independence Day Fireworks show will get underway at approximately 9:30 pm. The Harrisburg Symphony’s Tony Award-winning Maestro Stuart Malina will lead the orchestra in a program of light classics and patriotic favorites, to include the following:

Aaron Copland - Fanfare for the Common Man
John Williams - Raiders March from "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
A Duke Ellington Tribute
