New Year's Eve Party on Center Stage

Written by Cary Burkett, Arts & Culture Desk and WITF Host | Jun 13, 2014 11:14 AM

Saturday, June 14 at 8 p.m. on witf's Center Stage

It’s a New Year’s Eve party on witf’s Center Stage. The concert was recorded live at Tellus 360 in Lancaster in the hours between December 31 2013 and January 1, 2014.

Two bands are featured. Vinegar Creek Constituency, fronted by singer/songwriter Leo DiSanto, is an eclectic string band out of the PA Dutch Country. They describe their music as a mix of different influences including “super-charged bluegrass, early rockabilly, swing, vaudeville, outlaw country, and ragtime.”

There are also sets from Corty Byron and his band. He is a fixture on the live music scene in Central PA. He writes that his musical style has shifted from “swampy vintage rock and soulful acoustic based Americana to song-driven psychedelic indie pop/rock.”

We’ll be talking with both Leo and Corty in between sets.

Also on the show, a tale of humor and insight from the 2013 Lititz Storytelling Festival, as told by storyteller Jay O’Callahan. Jay has told stories in Africa, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and on the public radio program, "The Spider's Web," which brought his work to national attention.

Tellus 360 is an exciting venue for music in Lancaster. Independent of them but working closely with them is the recording studio The Sugartank, located on the lower level at Tellus 360. Tonight’s concert was both recorded and mixed by Mike Newman of The Sugartank.
