Maybe you enjoyed hearing Pokey LaFarge and his group performing on A Prairie Home Companion on October 5, 2013. Or maybe you caught his version of the pop standard “Lovesick Blues” from HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, played on Fresh Air recently.

You might have seen his performance on The Late Show with David Letterman in July of 2013.

If you watched the recent Lone Ranger movie, he and his band made a brief appearance in the movie and played one of the songs in the score.

Pokey has been getting around.

So when he brought his unique mix of hot swing, early jazz and ragtime blues to the Abbey Bar in Harrisburg, we thought our listeners should get a chance to hear a whole concert by this high-energy performer whose retro-renditions are being so spectacularly received.

NPR’s Stephen Thompson said that Pokey’s music “sizzles and crackles along with speedier verve and style — as archaic as a megaphone crooner, but timeless like great bluegrass. It's anachronistic to call Pokey LaFarge rock 'n' roll, but he belongs on that stage, too.”

He definitely belongs on Center Stage as well. Check out his live performance at the Abbey Bar, where he and his band electrified the audience.
