Blues Artist John Hammond On Center Stage

Blues singer and guitarist John Hammond has a long list of recording and performing credits.  With 34 albums to his credit and a career that spans 51 years, he has performed with many of the top names in blues music and other styles as well. That includes Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Hawks (later known as The Band), Dr. John, Tom Waits and Duane Allman. He has one Grammy and has been nominated for four others. He recorded with several of the members of The Band in 1965, and recommended them to Bob Dylan.  John Hammond was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010.

His Center Stage appearance comes from a concert presented by the Susquehanna Folk Music Society in February 2012, recorded live at the Abbey Bar in Harrisburg.







Also on the program, a Center Stage Spotlight on the King of the Cigar-Box Guitar, Shane Speal. Shane builds his own guitars made from cigar boxes and found items. He’s recorded a number of albums with his cigar-box guitars, the latest of which is called Twelve Stones.
