Art in the Atrium with Country Meadows Art Exhibit

Written by WITF Staff | Jul 17, 2018 3:47 PM

Explore the free art exhibit at WITF's Public Media Center in Harrisburg. On display during regular business hours through August: illustrations created by art students for Country Meadows' children's book on dementia.

Understanding dementia is difficult, and maintaining relationships with affected loved ones can be challenging for all of us, especially children. To help kids develop stronger relationships with their loved ones who have dementia, Country Meadows Retirement Communities and its sister, Ecumenical Retirement Community, partnered with the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design (PCA&D) in Lancaster, to create a character for a children's story and activity book.

Written by Country Meadows' Executive Director of Memory Support, Joel Kroft, "The Unforgettable Adventures of Grandma's Cape,", weaves the story of a child and his/her relationship with an awesome, cape-wearing Grandma, and how that relationship is changing because of her "forgetting disease."

This exhibit features illustrations students created that captured the unbreakable bond between a grandparent and a grandchild, despite the effects of dementia.

Exhibit visitors will be able to pick up a free copy of the book as well as information on Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
